Guwahati, Sept 1: The Indian Army has introduced its newly established drone platoons, named Ashni, during a military exercise held in the Kameng sector of Arunachal Pradesh.

Yudh Kaushal 3.0 Military Drill

The exercise, referred to as Yudh Kaushal 3.0, highlighted the Army's readiness for combat in the challenging terrains of the eastern Himalayas, where difficult weather conditions prevail.

According to a defence spokesperson, “A significant feature was the operational introduction of the Ashni platoons, demonstrating how advanced technology can be effectively integrated with proven military tactics to gain a strategic advantage in both current and future conflicts.”

Capabilities of Ashni Platoons

The Ashni platoons are designed to enhance various military operations, including drone surveillance, target acquisition, precision strikes, and air dominance, while also facilitating multi-domain maneuvers.

In an effort to modernize its forces, the Army is restructuring its units to include dedicated drone platoons within each infantry battalion, recognizing the increasing importance of unmanned systems in warfare.

Testing and Future Plans

“This marks the first testing phase for the drone platoons. Following these trials, a standardization process will be implemented,” stated an Army official.

The exercise, which wrapped up on August 30, showcased a blend of cutting-edge technology, innovative operational strategies, and the professional skills of the troops involved.
